6 Ways to Increase Sales with Pokémon Go (Really!)

Are you aware of how insanely popular that Pokémon Go is? According to Time Magazine, it’ bigger than Tinder and on its way to smashing Twitter’s “daily active users” ceiling. That’s how nuts this Pokémon Go augmented reality experiment has become since it was unceremoniously released on the iOS and Android app stores on July 6. Hard to imagine, but it’s become an even bigger phenomenon than our amazing AI-Powered sales automation CRM, Spiro. In fact, it’s become so big that, according to NBC News, police departments country-wide are issuing proactive warnings in order to protect the safety of players. People are walking into the streets and exploring all sorts of dangerous places to find the elusive Pokémon.  And you can even increase sales with Pokémon!

What Does Pokémon Have To Do With Salespeople?

Your first reaction might be “the heck with that, I’m making my 80 calls today.” But wait a second. A top 3 challenge for all salespeople is finding enough prospects and leads. You can use Pokémon Go to bring leads to you! I know it sounds crazy, but it really works. Here are 6 tactics that you can try today and this weekend to increase sales. (And when they work, please give us stories in the comments section.)

1. Create a “Lure” in Pokémon Go to Bring People to You

For a small cost you can create what is known as a lure near you, or near your shop / place of business. This essentially attracts Pokémon, who then attract customers. Here’s what one store manager wrote on Reddit: “As a manager for a store PoGo is f-ing amazing. SO. MUCH. FOOT TRAFFIC. Time to invest in some lures.” So if you’re selling in a store, automobile dealership, etc., go and create lures.

2. Find Pokémon Gyms and Go There with Your Products

A Pokémon Gym is a place where you can fight other users’ Pokémon to make them stronger. It’s a way of advancing in the game. You can find them nearby in the app. This is likely to be a place where a lot of people gather, so it would be a good place to network with potential buyers. [mc4wp_form id=”30369″]

3. What if You’re Not In Retail?

I was talking to a sales buddy of mine — Steve — and he had been trying to break into an account with limited success. He went out and created a Pokémon lure in their parking lot, and watched people come out to use Pokémon Go during lunch time. Guess who he chatted with? Their CFO. Not bad considering he was never able to get him on the phone before.

4. Reach Out to Your Contacts About Pokémon

Maybe you’re rolling your eyes and saying “my prospects don’t care about Pokémon”, but consider that over 10% of the US population is playing Pokémon EVERY DAY. Surely you have a prospect who cares, and so it’s a great way to build rapport and expand your relationship.

5. Be Creative!

Inc Magazine suggests “Take in-game screenshots and post them on the social-media platforms where you’re active. Use hashtags like #pokemongo and #pokemon to get the message out to your potential new customers.”

6. Be Quick and Lead

No doubt the Pokémon craze will fade away. Take advantage of this trend while it’s hot, and don’t forget to share your success stories in the comments.
